HISTORY
Our local
church was organized in 1971 after a brief period as a
mission. It initially existed as a "home
church," with it's members meeting weekly at the
pastor's home, but in time grew and rented space each
Sunday in a building located at the Tanana Valley
Fairgrounds. This was still a temporary fix,
though, and the members turned their thoughts toward
building a facility of their own.
After a very "hands on" building process,
the congregation moved into it's current home in
January of 1985.
While the congregation has seen many changes due to
the transient nature of military personnel and the
whole "Alaskan adventure" thing, the
pastoral role has remained consistent for the most
part. Our current pastor, David Welch, has
served the church for all but three years since 1977.
ORGANIZATIONAL
TIES
Our
church is part of an international network of churches
called the Church of God of
Prophecy, with the international headquarters located
in Cleveland, Tennessee.
As part of this organization we participate in worldwide
missions efforts, stewardship training and conferences
involving other affiliated churches in our state.
